Application and Criteria (LA)

Eligibility Criteria

For John Connell Awards submissions should describe activity, work or initiatives that were carried out during the period from 1 January 2011 to 1 June 2012.

The Noise Abatement Society understands that this type of work takes time to design and implement and, most importantly, to review and measure impact.

If your team wishes to re-submit their entry from 2011, or if the initiative you wish to submit has taken place over a longer time period than outlined above, please contact the Noise Abatement Society to discuss this.

Judging Criteria

Your submission should describe:

  • The nature of the noise issue or problem
  • The approach taken to understanding the issue or problem
  • A description of the solution or initiative
  • Evidence of the impact and result of the solution or initiative

Submissions will also be judged on the degree to which they demonstrate

  • Community co-operation
  • Noise education
  • Creative solutions
  • Cost effectiveness

How to submit your entry

Step 1: Read through the Eligibility Criteria and guidelines above.

Step 2: Read the guidance on Judging Criteria set out above to give yourselves the best chance of winning an award.

Step 3: Complete and return your submission by email to:  johnconnellawards@noise-abatement.org with your Local Authority Name and Project title as email subject. Please remember to include your full contact details.  If you wish to send any hard copy enclosures to support your submission, or post the entire submission (with a Submission Form) address these to: The John Connell Awards, Noise Abatement Society,Suite 2, 26Brunswick Terrace, Hove, E. Sussex, BN3 1HJ.

Step 4: Closing date for submissions is 28th September 2012

Step 5: You will receive a confirmation of receipt of your submission by email. Where necessary, the Noise Abatement Society will contact you to clarify points or request further information to support your submission before the judging panel reviews all submissions.

Step 6: Pencil the Awards Ceremony date in your diary – Tuesday November 6th 2012. The Awards Ceremony is held in The Terrace Pavilion in the House of Commons in London from 7.30 – 10.30pm.

Judging and results

Shortlisted teams will be notified in October 2012 and  invited to attend the John Connell Awards Ceremony on Tuesday 6th November 2012, when the outright winner and highly commended teams will be announced and receive their awards.

Publicity

The Noise Abatement Society will ensure that media coverage is given to the John Connell Awards including details of award winners in all categories.

This will include press releases after the ceremony, containing details of the winner and highly commended entries for the John Connell Local Authority Award. If there are any parts of your submission that you consider confidential and do not wish to be included, in whole or part, in any press releases or other print or on-line media, please mark these in your submission.
